LadyLady Starlight, a performance artist, was introduced to Gaga during the time. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007 after a performance at Lollapalooza Festival 2007. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during an internship with Famous Music Publishing. This firm was later bought by another company and rebranded as Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She was then hired to write music for the likes of Britney Spears and her Labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008, Gaga released her debut album 'The fame' to lukewarm radio play; Gaga performed in Europe and at gay clubs across the US to advertise the album. However, it was not until her first single "Just Dance" gained the forefront of attention that Gaga made waves on the scene. Gaga suffered from a labral tear in her right leg which she was secretly nursing for a few weeks in order to ensure she could continue the tour. After performing in Toronto, Gaga was unable walk and was in extreme discomfort. She was admitted to the hospital and her tour was cancelled.
